Fran Dunphy

Fran Dunphy is a college basketball coach who has gone full circle as the head coach at his alma mater, LaSalle. Dunphy is perhaps best known for his time as the head men’s basketball coach at Temple University. Prior to coaching, Dunphy played basketball for La Salle from 1967-1970. His coaching career began in 1971 at the United States Military Academy where he was the assistant coach. In 1977, Dunphy left the U.S. Military Academy and became the head coach at Malvern Prep. In 1979, Dunphy left Malvern Prep and became the assistant coach for La Salle, but only for a year. Dunphy soon became the assistant coach for American University where he spent 4 years. In 1985, Dunphy returned to La Salle where he served as an assistant coach again. Dunphy left La Salle in 1988 for an assistant coaching position at Penn. In 1989, he became the head coach for Penn and remained there until 2006. In 2006, Dunphy became the head coach for Temple University. In 13 seasons, he led the Owls to three conference regular season titles and two conference tournament championships. Dunphy was named Atlantic 10 and American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year twice. The Owls made the NCAA Tournament eight times under his watch.
