About Fred Goldsmith
Fred Goldsmith is a former head coach of four different college football programs. He had the greatest success of his career at Duke University, from 1994-98. In his first season on the job, Goldsmith took the Blue Devils to an 8-4 record and appearance in the Hall of Fame Bowl. He won the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award and was named Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year. After leaving Duke, Goldsmith spent time as the head coach of Franklin High School in North Carolina and at Lenoir-Rhyne University. He got his first Division 1 head coaching opportunity at Rice University and posted back-to-back winning records in 1992 and 1993. Goldsmith originally made his head coaching debut in 1981, spending one season leading the program at Slippery Rock University. He began his coaching career as the defensive coordinator at Florida A&M in 1974. Goldsmith also had stints as the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Air Force and Arkansas.
