About Fred Stolle
Fred Stolle is a professional tennis player who played from 1967 until 1976. Originally from Australia, Stolle turned professional in 1967 after ten years on the amateur circuit. Over the course off his career, Stolle compiled a 214-144 singled record, winning a French Open in 1965 and a US Open in 1966. Along with his victories, Stolle is famous for being the only male player to lose his first five Grand Slam finals, reaching the finals of all four, including three at Wimbledon. Stolle’s highest ranking as a singles competitor came in 1966 when he placed second according to the Daily Telegraph. Along with his singles success, Stolle was a great doubles player, compiling a 189-101 overall record and reaching world number one ranking in 1964. Stolle won ten Grand Slam titles in doubles throughout his career, making him one of the most decorated doubles competitiors in professional tennis history. Following his retirement, Stolle was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1985, truly an honor for any tennis player.
