George McPhee

George McPhee is the general manager for the Vegas Golden Knights. Before joining the expansion franchise in 2016, he was the alternate governor, vice president and special advisor to the general manager with the New York Islanders for a little under a year. McPhee built a great resume as the general manager for the Washington Capitals from 1997-2014. In his first season, the Capitals reached the Stanley Cup Final. They won seven Southeast Division championships and had eight 40-win seasons under his watch. In 2010, Washington capped off a franchise-record 121-point season. McPhee made the franchise-defining pick of Alexander Ovechkin with the first overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to his time with the Capitals, he was the vice president and director of hockey operations with the Vancouver Canucks. While he was an executive, Vancouver made four trips to the playoffs and made an appearance in the 1994 Stanley Cup Final. McPhee had a seven-year NHL playing career. He originally came up with the New York Rangers in the 1983 Stanley Cup Playoffs and scored three goals in one game. He won the Hobey Baker Award as the top player in college hockey in 1982 at Bowling Green State University.
