Gil Morgan

For 20 years Gil Morgan was among the most consistent performers on the PGA Tour. After an All-American career at East Central University he earned his doctor of optometry degree at Southern College of Optometry and became a professional golfer. Over the next two decades he won eight tournaments on the PGA Tour and made the final cut 414 times out of the 555 events he played in. In his career he accumulated over $5 million in winnings and was selected for the USA Ryder Cup team in 1979 and 1983. When he turned 50 years old in 1996 he joined the Senior PGA Tour and won his first tournament eleven days later. A year later he was named the tour’s “rookie of the year” and went on to win 20 senior tournaments, including three Majors, the Tradition in 1997 and 1998 and the Senior Players Championship in 1998. For his contributions to the game and in honor of his collegiate career he was inducted into both the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Hall of Fame.
