About Irving Fryar
Irving Fryar played 17 seasons in the NFL after starring at the University of Nebraska. While playing for the Cornhuskers he earned All-American honors in 1983 and made a name for himself as one of the best wide receivers in the country. When the NFL draft came around in 1984 he rose to the top of the draft boards and was selected with the No. 1 overall pick by the New England Patriots.
From 1984 to 2000 Fryar earned five Pro-Bowl selections while playing for the Patriots, Dolphins, Eagles and Redskins. When his career came to an end in 2001 he had accumulated 12,785 receiving yards and 84 touchdowns on 851 career receptions, earning him a spot on the New England Patriots All-1980’s Team and 50th Anniversary Team. In 1998 the NFL honored him with the Bart Starr Award, presented to the NFL player that best exemplifies outstanding character and leadership in the home, on the field and in the community.
