About James Hagens
James Hagens entered the world on November 3, 2006 in Hauppauge, New York and plays as an elite American ice hockey center for Boston College in the NCAA while being highly regarded for the 2025 NHL Draft. The U.S. National Team Development Program produced him as he accumulated 187 points throughout his two-year career before he led the 2023–24 U18 season with 102 points (39 goals and 63 assists) in 58 games.
Hagens established a new IIHF U18 World Championship scoring record by achieving 22 points in 2024 which led to his silver medal victory and MVP award. The 2025 World Junior Championships became another international victory for Hagens who accumulated nine points across seven games while leading Team USA to gold medal victory.
Hagens received his first Hockey East All-Rookie Team selection in the 2024–25 season after scoring 11 goals and recording 26 assists through 37 games while maintaining a plus-21 rating and scoring the opening-round NCAA Tournament winner.
At 5′11″ tall Hagens combines superior skating abilities with exceptional hockey intelligence and strong playmaking capabilities. The scouting community praises his agility while recognizing his exceptional vision and creative abilities which they believe match the skill set of Jack Hughes. He possesses all the qualities to become a first-line center because of his puck possession abilities combined with his deceptive edgework and dynamic offensive presence.
Since birth he has always been a die-hard Long Islander and supports the New York Islanders. Playing hockey in front of his family members and friends at Long Island represents a dream he wishes to achieve throughout his life.
The family maintains a strong focus on hockey during his time off the ice. His father Michael constructed an outdoor ice rink at home which enabled him to develop along with his brother Michael during their childhood while his siblings currently play at Boston College.
Hagens stands as one of the top players from his 2025 NHL Draft class after the Boston Bruins selected him seventh overall. The combination of his skillset with intelligence and competitive spirit makes him ready to transform the game at the professional level.
