About Jay Buhner
Jay Buhner played 15 seasons in the Major Leagues with the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners. Known best for his 14 seasons with the Mariners, Buhner was one of the most recognizable and successful players of his era. He began his career in the Pirates organization after being selected in the 2nd round of the 1984 MLB Draft out of McLennan Community College. Eventually he ended up in the Yankees organization and made his MLB debut in the Bronx in 1988. After just one season with the Bronx Bombers he made his way to Seattle and became a legend. His best years with the Mariners came from 1995 to 1997 in which he averaged over 40 homeruns and 100 RBI a season. During the span of his career with the Mariners he was one of their most consistent players on the field and in the clubhouse, offering veteran mentorship for younger players and becoming a trusted teammate of future hall of famers like Randy Johnson and Ken Griffey Jr. In 1996 Buhner earned his first All-Star appearance and Gold Glove Award, and was eventually honored with induction into the Mariners Hall of Fame.
