About Jean Basson
Jean Basson is an outstanding Olympic swimmer originating from South Africa. Listed as one of the top five male swimmers in Gauteng, South Africa, he currently holds the South Africa National Age Group Record with the 200-meter freestyle at seventeen years old and the 400-meter freestyle at eighteen years. Although born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Basson attended the University of Arizona and contributed immensely to the men’s swimming team as a Wildcat. Specializing in the freestyle event, he has set records in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter freestyle throughout his competitive career. One of Basson’s most notable career accomplishments was achieved in the 200 meter freestyle at the 2008 Winter Olympic Games, during which he placed fourth. Basson currently resides in Arizona, where he attended college, and continues to swim passionately and competitively.
