About Jeremy Hellickson
Jeremy Hellickson was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the fourth round of the 2005 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Hoover High School in Des Moines, Iowa. Over the next five seasons, he sharpened his pitches on the mound and grew his reputation as one of the top minor league prospects. While pitching in the minor leagues he earned numerous honors, including being named the 2009 Triple-A Baseball National Championship MVP, the International League Most Valuable Pitcher in 2010 and the Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year in 2010. That same season he made his MLB debut with the Rays and has never turned back. The following year he won the 2011 American League Rookie of the Year Award after posting a 13-10 record with a shining 2.95 ERA in 29 starts. In 2012 he won ten games and posted a 3.10 ERA in 31 starts in route to earning a Gold Glove Award on the mound. Hellickson is known as “Hellboy” by his legions of fans. In 2014 he was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks and went onto pitch for the Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals. He retired following the 2019 season.
