About Jerry Kill
Jerry Kill played his college football at Southwestern College as a linebacker from 1979 to 1982. After becoming the first person in his family to earn a college degree he began his coaching career at Pittsburgh State in 1985. Upon earning his master's degree from Pittsburgh State he headed up the football team at Webb City High School from 1988 to 1990. In 1991 he returned to Pittsburgh as the offensive coordinator and remained in that position until being hired as the head coach at Saginaw Valley State in 1994.
During his four years at Saginaw, he led the Cardinals to 38 wins including two nine-win seasons in 1997 and 1998. During the 1999 and 2000 seasons, he headed up Emporia State and then landed the head-coaching job at Southern Illinois from 2001 to 2007. During that span, he led the Salukis to three Gateway Conference titles and a 12-2 season in 2007. In 2008 he headed to Northern Illinois and went on to lead the Huskies to a 10-3 record in 2010 to go along with a Mid-American Conference title.
Coach Kill took over at the University of Minnesota squad in 2011. He led them from just three wins in his first season to back-to-back 8-5 seasons in 2013 and 2014.Due to seizures and other health problems, Kill was forced to retire in 2015. He got back in coaching in 2017 as the offensive coordinator at Rutgers. Kill also coached at Virginia Tech and TCU, before being hired as the head coach at New Mexico State in 2021.
