About Jim Lonborg
Jim Lonborg had a 15-year pitching career for the Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, and Philadelphia Phillies. Lonborg had his best season for the 1967 Red Sox. He was and All-Star and the Cy Young Award winner by going 22-9 with a 3.16 ERA and 246 strikeouts. Boston’s season was named the “Impossible Dream” after they overcame a tight race to win the American League pennant and reach their first World Series since 1946. Lonborg was instrumental, winning the game to clinch their spot on the final day of the season and pitching a one-hitter in Game 2 of the Fall Classic against the St. Louis Cardinals. For his incredible season and seven years in Boston, he was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2002. Overall, Lonborg won 157 big league games. The Santa Maria, California native played collegiately at Stanford. He went to dentistry school at Tufts University following retirement and practiced in Massachusetts for several years.
