About Jimmy Makar
Jimmy Makar has been a part of NASCAR racing for nearly 30 years after getting his start as a mechanic in 1976 at the age of 20. Over time he worked his way up to being named the Senior Vice President of Racing Operations for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2004, where he remains today. During his decorated career he has served as the Crew Chief for such notable drivers as Rusty Wallace, Dale Jarrett and Bobby Labonte from 1990 to 2003 and helped his drivers to 22 NASCAR race wins. In 1993 he put his name on the map when he helped Dale Jarrett to a win at the Daytona 500 and went on to help Bobby Labonte to a NASCAR Winston Cup Series championship in 2000. His duties as the Senior Vice President of Racing Operations include assisting the team’s engineering and aerodynamic departments. With experience as a driver, mechanic, crew chief and executive, he is among the most knowledgeable and influential people in the racing business today.
