Joel Embiid Biography

Joel Embiid was born in Yaounde, Cameroon and got his start in professional athletics as a pro volleyball player in Europe. Eventually he picked up the game of basketball and quickly became one of the top players in the country while playing at The Rock School in Gainesville, Florida. After high school he headed to the University of Kansas and earned Second Team All-Big 12, Big 12 All-Defensive, Big 12 All-Newcomer and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2014. At 7’0, 250 pounds he is a force down low in the paint and proved himself to be one of the top players in the country heading into the 2014 NBA Draft. After being selected with the No. 3 overall pick in the draft by the Philadelphia 76ers he suffered an injury that kept him from playing, however he is still considered to be one of the brightest young stars in the NBA.
