About John Kruk
John Kruk is a West Virginia native and played his college ball at Potomac State and Allegany Community College. In 1981 he began his pro career as a No. 3 special draft selection of the San Diego Padres. He played five seasons in the minor leagues before making his debut with the Padres in 1986.
After three seasons with the Padres he headed to Philadelphia in 1989 and earned three consecutive All-Star selections from 1991 to 1993. Kruk played six seasons in Philly before retiring with the Chicago White Sox in 1995. During his major league career he was one of the top hitters in the league, posting a career .300 batting average in 4,603 career plate appearances.
Since his retirement he has become a popular sports personality, making appearances on MLB on Fox and The Best Damn Sports Show Period. Kruk is best known for his long association with ESPN and their popular show, Baseball Tonight. He is currently a broadcaster for Phillies games on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
