About John Thompson III
John Thompson III played his college basketball at Princeton University from 1984 to 1988. After earning his degree from Princeton in 1988 he began a career in coaching and returned to Princeton as an assistant coach in 1995. He served in that role until being promoted to head coach in 2000. During his first four seasons at the helm at Princeton he led his team to three Ivy League titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2004 his team won 20 games and posted a 13-1 Ivy League Conference record. After the 2004 season he was hired as the head coach at Georgetown. Two seasons later his team won 23 games and made it to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. The following year they topped that performance with a 30-win season, a Big East Conference title and a Final Four appearance. During his tenure at Georgetown, he led the Hoyas to three Big East Conference titles, 278 wins, and eight NCAA Tournament appearances.
