About Kari Lehtonen
Kari Lehtonen has been one of the best goaltenders in the NHL for quite some time. He has had lengthy tenures with both the Atlanta Thrashers and Dallas Stars. In 2002, he became the highest-selectedEuropean goalie and Finnish player in NHL Draft history. Lehtonen played his first five seasons in Atlanta and set several franchise records including top marks for career games and wins. After his time with the Thrashers, he was traded to the Stars. Since arriving in Dallas, he has become a rock in net for a franchise that is a perennial playoff contender. In addition to his stellar play on the ice, Lehtonen is also known for his colorful masks that offer feature references from pop culture. Alongside success in the NHL, he has been an international star for Finland. He helped the squad win bronze at the 2014 Olympics. Prior to his time in the NHL, Lehtonen played in Finland for Jokerit. In 2002, he led them to an SM-liiga title while winning the Jari Kurri trophy as the best player in the playoffs. That year, Lehtonen also was awarded the first of two Urpo Ylonen trophies as the league's best goalie.
