About Kieran McKenna
Kieran McKenna is a Northern Irish professional soccer manager and former midfielder, currently the head coach of EFL Championship club Ipswich Town, where he has transformed the club into promotion contenders, known for his possession-based, attacking style and resilience under pressure. McKenna's playing career ended prematurely at 22 due to a hip injury after youth stints at Tottenham Hotspur and representing Northern Ireland at U17–U21 levels. He transitioned to coaching, earning a sports science degree from Loughborough University, then leading Tottenham's youth teams before joining Manchester United in 2016. Appointed Ipswich manager in December 2021, McKenna delivered back-to-back promotions through League One (2022–23) and Championship (2023–24), returning the club to the Premier League after 22 years. After a challenging Premier League stint, Ipswich were relegated but remain competitive in the 2025–26 Championship under his leadership.
