About Kristin Otto
Kristin Otto is a German native and was the first woman to win six gold medals at a single Olympic Games, accomplishing that feat at the 1988 Seoul Olympic games. Her other accomplishments include being the first woman to swim the short course 100 meter backstroke in under a minute, winning seven World Championships, nine European Championships and three Friendship Games championships. Although she stared out as a backstroke swimmer she later changed her focus to sprint swimming and became one of the most legendary 100m and 200m competitors in history. In 1984, 1986 and 1988 Swimming World Magazine named her Female World Swimmer of the Year after dominating in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 4x100 freestyle, 4x100 medley and 200m backstroke the entire decade. She is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest athletes to have ever jumped in the pool.
