Larry Barnett is a former Major League Baseball umpire who worked in the American League from 1969 to 1999. As an umpire, Barnett has officiated in four World Series: 1975, 1981, 1984, and 1990. He also officiated in seven American League Championship Series: 1972, 1976, 1979, 1982, 1986, 1991, and 1996. Barnett umpired in four All-Star games: 1973, 1980, 1988, and 1997. During Game 3 of the 1975 World Series, Barnett made a no call when Fisk committed a throwing error on the play after colliding with Armbrister, which led to the Red’s winning run. Barnett’s failure to call interference brought much criticism to Barnett. To this day, MLB believes that Barnett made the correct call. Barnett was also behind the plate for Game 1 of the 1996 American League Championship Series where 11-year-old reached over the right field fence to catch Derek Jeter’s fly ball. The played was ruled a home run by Rich Garcia, who later admitted that the ruling was probably incorrect.
