Lisa Andersen

Lisa Anderson was born in Ormond Beach, Florida and grew up surfing the waves on the east coast of the sunshine state. In 1987 she won the United States Amateur title and turned pro the following year. During her first year on the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour she won Rookie of the Year honors and went on to become one of the best surfer’s in the history of the sport. From 1994 to 1997 she won four consecutive ASP World Championships, dominating her opponents on waves in some of the most exotic surf spots around the world. During that time she was a six-time winner of Surfer Magazine’s Readers Poll, and was named the 1998 Female Athlete of the Year. Ultimately, Ander’s career was cut short due to injuries, but that did not keep her from becoming one of the greatest female athletes of alltime. In 1999 she was named by Sports Illustrated for Women as one of the 100 Greatest Sportswoman of the Century, and has since been inducted into the Surfer’s Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Surfing Walk of Fame in 2004 as that year’s Woman of the Year.
