About Lorenzo Romar
Lorenzo Romar has extensive experience coaching at the highest levels of college basketball. Romar is best known for his 15-year run at his alma mater Washington. He led the Huskies to three Sweet Sixteen appearances, six 20-win seasons, and two Pac-12 Conference Championships while being named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year three times.
Romar has had two stints as the head coach at Pepperdine, getting his first top job there in 1996. He turned their struggling program into a winner, finishing with a 19-win season in 1999. After that season, he was hired at Saint Louis and led them to an NCAA Tournament appearance in his first year.
Romar was born in South Gate, California and played his college basketball at Cerritos Community College and the University of Washington. After earning his degree from Washington he played in the NBA for five seasons with the Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks and Detroit Pistons from 1980 to 1985.
After retiring as a player, Romar turned his focus to coaching and joined the UCLA staff as an assistant in 1992. While at UCLA he helped the Bruins to an NCAA National Championship in 1995 and earned the reputation as one of the best basketball minds in the country.
