Mark Appel was the first pick for the Astros in the 2013 MLB Draft, He completed his four years at Stanford University on a baseball scholarship and became their starting pitcher by his sophomore year. Prior to college, Appel was born in Texas in 1991 but later moved to California, attending high school at Monte Vista High School in Danville, California. Throughout his high school career, Appel was only the relief pitcher for the school’s baseball team, as some of his peers were perceived as more talented. Little did they know how much determination Appel would display, as he is currently climbing up higher and higher and will continue to make a name for himself.
