About Matt Hedges
Matt Hedges is a star defender in MLS for FC Dallas. Hedges has played for the club since 2012 when he was selected in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft. He was named to the MLS Best XI in 2015 and 2016, won MLS Defender of the Year in 2016 and was selected to his first All-Star team in 2019. That same year Hedges broke out to be recognized as the league's best defender, he helped FC Dallas win the Supporters Shield and the U.S. Open Cup. He has also competed at times for the U.S. men's national team, including during the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Hedges played college soccer at the University of North Carolina, where he was the ACC Defender of the Year while helping the Tar Heels win the National Championship in 2011.
