About Matt Hughes
Matt Hughes is a seven-time UFC Champion. During his high school years, Hughes played football and wrestling. In his wrestling career, Hughes was a two-time 145lb IHSA Class A state wrestling champion. In his junior and senior years, Hughes went undefeated and won back-to-back state championships. He attended Southwestern Illinois College, Lincoln College and finally Eastern Illinois College. At Southwestern Illinois College, Hughes placed 5th in the nation at 158 lb. When Hughes graduated from Eastern Illinois, he was a two-time NCAA Division I All-American. On January 1, 1998, Hughes made his mixed martial arts debut and won the fight in 15 seconds by a KO. Hughes then made his debut with UFC 22: There Can Only Be One Champion on September 24, 1999. Hughes announced his retirement on January 24, 2013. Hughes has been inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame and the NJCAA Hall of Fame. Hughes released his autobiography, Made in America: The Most Dominant Champion in UFC History on January 1, 2008.
