About Matthew Knies
Matthew Knies is an American professional ice hockey forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Selected 57th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, he signed with Toronto in April 2023 after a standout collegiate career at the University of Minnesota, where he was named Big Ten Player of the Year and a Hobey Baker Award finalist. Knies immediately impacted the NHL, recording a Gordie Howe hat trick in December 2023 and achieving his first career hat trick in January 2025. In the 2024–25 season, he posted 29 goals and 29 assists over 78 games, solidifying his role as a top-line power forward. Internationally, Knies represented the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
