About Michael Young
During his 14-year career, Michael Young was a seven-time All-Star and respected for his versatility in the field. Young played a slew of positions during his career, never complaining about moving spots to help make the team better. In 2008, he won a Gold Glove for his play at shortstop. He was also a prodigious hitter and won the American League batting title in 2005. Young spent 12 full seasons with the Texas Rangers and is the all-time leader in games, hits, and runs in addition to several other statistical categories. He played one final season split between the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Toronto Blue Jays originally drafted him out of UC Santa Barbara in the fifth round of the 1997 MLB Draft. Young was twice named the Marvin Miller Man of the Year and is a noted philanthropist. He currently serves as an assistant to the general manager for the Rangers.
