Mike Martz

Mike Martz got his start in big time college football as a tight end at San Diego Mesa College. He went on to play at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Fresno State before earning his degree from Washington University in 1972. After the 1972 season he began his coaching career at Bullard High School in Fresno, California before signing on as an assistant coach at San Diego Mesa College in 1974. After one season at San Jose State in 1975 he returned to San Diego Mesa College from 1976 to 1977, and then went on to serve as an assistant at Santa Ana College, Fresno State University, University of the Pacific, the University of Minnesota and Arizona State University from 1978 to 1991 before making the leap to the NFL as the quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Rams in 1992. From 1992 to 2000 he served as n assistant with the Rams and Redskins before being named head coach of the Rams in 2000. After five seasons with the Rams he signed on as the offensive coordinator with the Detroit Lions and has since served in that same role with the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears from 2006 to 2011.
