Mike Schlappi

Mike Schlappi is a wheelchair basketball champion and a motivational speaker. As a child, Schlappi knew that he wanted to be a professional athlete, but his dreams were put on hold. When he was 14, Schlappi was injured in a shooting accident. Schlappi was shot in his chest and the doctors told him that he would never walk again. Given the information, Schlappi did not give up; instead he dedicated himself to sports and became one of the world’s best wheelchair basketball stars. A few months after his injury, Schlappi played wheelchair basketball for the first time and he was immediately hooked. Schlappi is the only wheelchair basketball player in U.S. history to participate in 4 consecutive summer Paralympic games. Schlappi is a fourtime medalist and a two-time world champion. He has also been inducted into the Wheelchair Basketball Hall of Fame. Schlappi has written three different books and he inspires people as a motivational speaker.
