About Mike Shildt
Mike Shildt is a baseball lifer and the current manager of the San Diego Padres. Prior to joining the Padres, Shildt served as a Senior VP for On-Field Operations with Major League Baseball. Most of his experience in the game came in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, including a stint as the manager of the major league club. S
Shildt made three postseason appearances with the Cardinals in four seasons. He spent a long tenure working as a manager in the Cardinals minor league system prior to being named to the major league coaching staff in 2017. He took over the managerial position on an interim basis during the 2018 season and finished the year with a 40-28 record. That strong showing was enough for the front office to give Shildt a three-year deal to manage the club. Prior to arriving in St. Louis, he was the manager of the Johnson City Cardinals, Springfield Cardinals and Memphis Redbirds. In 2012, Shildt led Springfield to their first Texas League Championship. He also guided Johnson City to back-to-back league titles in 2010-11. Shildt began his career in baseball as a scout for Major League Baseball before joining the Cardinals organization in the same capacity. He began his run on the bench as a part-time coach in short-season Single-A ball in 2004.
