About Misty Hyman
While she has now retired from swimming competitively, when she was still in the water Misty Hyman was a force to be reckoned with. Misty began to swim at an early age, and began to excel in competitions in high school and college when she attended Stanford. While still in school she blossomed into one of the best in her sport when she won the Honda Sports Award twice recognizing her as the outstanding college female swimmer of the year. Throughout her career Misty has excelled in international competition including the World Championships where she has won a total of five bronze medals, two silver medals, and a gold medal. The biggest accomplishment of her swimming career came in 2000 when she qualified for the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia and took home a gold medal in the 200 meter butterfly event. Hyman decided to retire from swimming competitively after she narrowly missed making the Olympic team in 2004.
