Nancy Hogshead-Makar

Nancy Hogshead-Makar is a three-time Olympic gold medalist. She captured gold in the 100-meter freestyle, 4x100 meter freestyle, and 4x100 meter medley at the 1984 Games. Hogshead-Makar also took home silver in the 200-meter individual medley. After being diagnosed with asthma following a bronchial spasm during a race, she became one of the leading asthma speakers in the world. She spoke to hundreds of groups a year and was named National Spokesperson by the American Lung Association. Hogshead-Makar is also an advocate for the Women’s Sports Foundation, an organization she has been associated with for over 30 years. She holds a law degree from Georgetown and has practiced since 1997, serving as a specialist in cases involving Title IX. As a result of her work, she has received many honors and in 2014 was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by Women in Business.
