About Randy Jones
Randy Jones is one of the best pitchers in San Diego Padres history. Jones spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Padres. He debuted in 1973, but went through a rough 1974 campaign where he went 8-22. Jones rebounded in 1975, winning 20 games and posting a National League-leading 2.24 ERA. He was named to the first of two straight All-Star teams and won The Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year. In 1976, Jones led baseball with 22 victories, posted a 2.74 ERA and won the National League Cy Young Award. That season, he also set defensive records for pitchers for most chances accepted without an error, highest fielding percentage and most double plays. Jones stayed with San Diego through the 1980 season before being traded to the New York Mets. He spent two final years of his career in New York. Jones is a member of the San Diego Padres Hall of Fame and has his #35 jersey retired by the franchise. In retirement, Jones has been a personal pitching coach, restauranteur and Padres broadcaster.
