About Ray McCallum
As a player Ray McCallum played basketball for Ball State University where he scored 2,109 points during his career and was named Player of the Year in the Mid-American Conference in his senior season. Although he was drafted late in the 1983 NBA Draft, Ray went onto coaching. He started his new journey as a coach at his alma mater as an assistant where he gained the experience he needed to move onto other schools and eventually come back as the head coach for the team he once played on. He led Ball State to a 126-76 record which earned the program two NCAA appearances, two MAC Tournament Championships, and one MAC Regular Season Championship. Ray eventually landed the head coaching position at the University of Detroit where he has coached the team since 2008, including his own son who was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NBA Draft.
