About Rex Chapman
Rex Chapman had a 12-year career in the NBA. Chapman was a two-time All-SEC performer and 1,000 point scorer in two seasons at the University of Kentucky. He was then selected with the eighth overall pick of 1988 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets. As a rookie, Chapman came in and immediately contributed, scoring 16.9 points per game and being named to the All-Rookie second team. During his third season, he participated in the Slam Dunk Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend. Following his Charlotte tenure, Chapman was traded to the Washington Bullets. He also spent time with the Miami Heat, but found a true home closing out his career with the Phoenix Suns. He became a fan favorite for the Suns while playing a key role on several playoff teams.
After retiring, Chapman became a scout and Director of Basketball Operations for Phoenix. He has also worked in the front office of other organizations and served as a broadcaster. At the same time, he developed an addiction to opioids. Chapman was even convicted of shoplifting at one of his lowest points, but he got clean and now speaks to others about the dangers of drug abuse. He has also become a social media sensation, boasting over 500,000 followers on Twitter who enjoy the viral videos he posts. Chapman also hosts radio programs centered around Kentucky basketball in Lexington.
