About Richard Petty
As a seven time Winston Cup Champion, with 200 career wins, Richard Petty is NASCAR royalty. Thus, he is regularly addressed as, The King in the NASCAR garage area on race weekends. While Richard is known for his expertise behind the wheel his entire career, he is known best to the mainstream public for winning the 1984 Firecracker 400 at Daytona. It was his record 200th NASCAR victory, a record that still stands years later. Richard also won the race on the Fourth of July and he did it in front of Ronald Reagan, the first sitting U.S. president to visit NASCARs most famous track. It was arguably the greatest moment for one of the greatest legends of the sport of auto racing. Richards accomplishments both behind the wheel and not have earned him a place in three different halls of fame, being named one of NASCARs 50 Greatest Drivers of all time, and he has even received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
