About Rick Sutcliffe
Nicknamed The Red Baron for his red hair and beard, Rick Sutcliffe is a retired Major League Baseball pitcher. Rick made it to the majors in 1979 where he pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers and won 17 games in his first full season. His prowess on the mound in his young career earned Sutcliffe the Rookie of the Year Award. He played for the Indians, Cubs, Orioles, and Cardinals in his major league career in route to amassing a 171-139 record with 1,679 strikeouts. His success was recognized by Rick becoming a three time All-Star selection, the NL Cy Young Award winner in 1984 and the Roberto Clemente Award recipient in 1987. Recurring arm injuries sidelined Rick in the later stages of his career and ultimately forced him to retire from playing. Since then Sutcliffe has gone into broadcasting where he became a color commentator for the San Diego Padres, and later began work at ESPN.
