About Rosie Napravnik
Rosie Napravnik is one of the most successful female jockeys in thoroughbred racing history. In a career that has been only lightly touched by women, Napravnik is one of the jockeys who are helping to pave the way for future female jockeys. She began her racing career in 2005 but quickly worked her way up to the top 10 jockeys in North America in both earnings and total wins. In 2012, she became the first female jockey to win the Kentucky Oaks, a feat she then repeated in 2014. That win in 2012 helped her to break the record for earnings and total wins that had been set by Julie Krone. She also won a Breeders Cup event in 2012 and in 2014 became the first female jockey to win a second at the Breeders Cup Distaff. Rosie finished 5th in the 2013 Kentucky Derby, followed up by a 3rd place finish in that years Preakness Stakes, marking the best finishes in those races for a woman. Following her 2014 Breeders Cup win, Napravnik announced that she was pregnant and would be retiring from the sport but wouldnt clarify if it would be permanent.
