About Ross Powers
Ross Powers was one of the most dominant figures in the snowboard halfpipe during the early 2000s. Born in Virginia, Powers grew up on the mountains and has been snowboarding since before he was born. His first trip to the Olympics came in 1998 when he took home the bronze medal in the snowboard halfpipe event. In Salt Lake City in the 2012 Winter Olympics, Powers came in as the heavy favorite and did not disappoint. He put up a score of 46.1 with a record setting 18 foot method grab, dominating the field and taking the gold medal on a U.S. swept platform. This was the first time the Americans had swept an event at the Winter Olympics since 1956. Powers went on to win several major events in the halfpipe before 2005 when he switched his focus to begin racing in snowboard cross, in which he narrowly missed qualifying for the U.S. Olympic team for the 2010 Olympic Games. Following his qualifying efforts, Powers accepted a position as the Director for a snowboard program at Stratton Mountain School where he remains today.
