About Saniya Rivers
Saniya Rivers is an American basketball player in the WNBA for the Connecticut Sun. Hailing from Wilmington, North Carolina, she excelled in high school, earning Gatorade National Player of the Year and McDonald’s All-American honors. A five-star recruit, she started her career at the powerhouse women’s basketball program University of South Carolina under Dawn Staley, contributing to the Gamecocks’ 2022 national title championship run as a true freshman. She made an immediate impact after transferring back closer to home to the NC State Wolfpack. She became a standout in the ACC, averaging 11.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in her 2024-25 senior season.
Rivers earned First-Team All-ACC, All-Defensive Team, and AP All-America Honorable Mention honors, leading NC State to the 2024 Final Four. Her versatility—scoring, playmaking, and defensive prowess across multiple positions made her an imposing factor. She was drafted eighth overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
