About Scott Verplank
Scott Verplank is a Dallas, Texas native and played collegiately at Oklahoma State University before turning pro in 1986. During his days with the Cowboys he won the 1985 Western Open and became the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event since 1956. In 1983 he led Oklahoma State to an NCAA Championship and later won the 1984 United States Amateur and the 1986 NCAA individual title. Upon turning pro he earned his PGA Tour card and has since won 5 events on tour with 8 total professional wins. In 2002 and 2006 he was selected to play on the United States Ryder Cup teams and was also awarded the 2002 Ben Hogan Award by the Golf Writers Association of America for his stellar play despite having to overcome his struggles with diabetes. Thus far he has been a solid performer in major tournaments, having placed 8th at the 2003 Masters Tournament, 7th at the 2004 Open Championship, 7th at the 2007 U.S. Open and a career best 4th place at the 2011 PGA Championship.
