About Shams Charania
Shams Charania is an American sports reporter known for his National Basketball Association (NBA) coverage. Born on April 1, 1994, Charania is the son of Pakistani Muslim immigrants who moved to Wilmette, Ill., a northern suburb of Chicago, in the 1980s. He went on to study communications at Loyola College in 2017. The budding journalist started his career early at 17, with Charania covering the Chicago Bulls for ChicagoNow. He later joined RealGM, reporting on minor league transactions. He has also spent time at Yahoo Sports, The Athletic, Stadium, and FanDuel TV. Charania’s big break came in 2014 when we scooped the trade of Luol Deng from the Chicago Bulls to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Charania was a mentee of notable ESPN Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, who Charania has now supplanted at ESPN as their top insider on staff after Wojnarowski retired from the network.
