About Sheldon Keefe
Sheldon Keefe entered the world on May 20, 1980, in Brampton, Ontario. The current head coach of the New Jersey Devils Sheldon Keefe was born on May 20, 1980, in Brampton, Ontario. His professional hockey career spanned 125 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning from 2000 to 2003 before he shifted to coaching where he gained recognition in both junior and professional levels.
Keefe started his coaching career with the Pembroke Lumber Kings (CCHL) where he led the team to five consecutive league titles and won the national RBC Cup. The OHL's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds became a dominant force under his leadership in 2012 when he received the CHL Coach of the Year award. He took the Toronto Marlies (AHL) to their first Calder Cup victory in 2018 while maintaining a.672 winning percentage.
The Toronto Maple Leafs hired Keefe as their head coach in November 2019 and he achieved a 212–97–40 record throughout his five-year tenure with three 100-point seasons and a franchise-best 115-point regular season in 2021–22. The team maintained its position as a top regular-season performer despite limited playoff achievements under his leadership.
Keefe accepted the New Jersey Devils head coaching position in May 2024 under a four-year contract. The early assessments show that he operates with accountability while maintaining a fast-paced approach to coaching and develops strong relationships with his players.
Through his success in junior hockey and professional coaching and his ability to build winning cultures Keefe has established himself as one of the most respected young leaders in the NHL.
