About Sheryl Swoopes
Sheryl Swoopes is a retired guard / forward for the Houston Comets, Seattle Storm, and Tulsa Shock of the WNBA. Swoopes began playing basketball with her three older brothers and began competing at 7 years old. Swoopes was originally recruited by the University of Texas, but shortly enrolled at South Plains College. Swoopes played basketball for two years at South Plains College before she transferred for a final time to Texas Tech. Swoopes was named to the USA national team and competed in the 1994 World Championships where the team brought home the bronze medal. She also competed in the 1996 Olympics with Team USA. The Houston Comets selected Swoopes in the 1997 inaugural season. After missing part of the 1997 season due to giving birth to her son, she helped lead the Comets to the 1997 WNBA Championship. In her playing career, Swoopes has been a 6x WNBA All-Star, 4x WNBA Champion, 3x WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Award winner, 3x WNBA MVP Award winner and 2x WNBA Scoring Champion.
