About Simon Nemec
Simon Nemec is an NHL defenseman for the New Jersey Devils. He is known for his elite two-way play, puck-moving ability, and composure under pressure. Nemec debuted professionally at 16 with HK Nitra in the Slovak Extraliga, earning top prospect honors. Selected second overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, the highest-drafted Slovak defenseman ever, he signed a three-year entry-level deal. He split his first two seasons between the Devils and the AHL’s Utica Comets. In his first whole NHL campaign (2024-25), he notched 11 points in 38 games before a midseason injury. Offensively, he has exploded for the 2025-2026 season. Highlights include a playoff overtime winner in 2025 and a rare hat trick in November 2025 against Chicago. Internationally, he captained Slovakia to U18 gold (2021), won bronze at the 2022 Olympics (Slovakia’s first hockey medal), and starred in the 2022 Worlds.
