About Stephanie Rice
Stephanie Rice is a retired swimmer. When Rice was just 4 years old, she knew that she wanted to be an Olympic swimmer. Rice first caught Australia’s attention when she was 17 years old. In 2006, Rice won the gold in the 200 and 400 Medley at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. At the 2007 Melbourne World Championships, Rice won the bronze medal in the 200m individual medleys. During the 2008 Australian Olympic trials, Rice broke the world record in the 400m individual medleys. Rice competed in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics where she won three gold medals in the 200 and 400m individual medleys and the 4x200m freestyle relay. In 2008, Rice was named 2008 Telstra Australian Swimmer of the Year and Swimming World Magazine named her as the 2008 World Swimmer of the Year and the Pacific Rim Swimmer of the Year. On January 26, 2009, Rice was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. Rice confirmed her retirement on April 9, 2014.
