About Steve Alford
Steve Alford's legacy in basketball started at the University of Indiana. He helped the Hoosiers win their fifth national championship and finished as the all-time leading scorer in program history. Alford played four years in the NBA, for the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors before getting into coaching. Alford has always been a head coach, serving in that role at Manchester, Southwest Missouri State, Iowa, New Mexico and UCLA. After leading Manchester to three straight Division III tournaments, he got his first Division 1 head coaching opportunity. Alford guided Southwest Missouri State to the Sweet Sixteen in 1999 and then took over at Iowa. He won two Big Ten Tournament titles, before leaving for New Mexico. Alford had the greatest success of his career with the Lobos, making three NCAA Tournaments and winning four Mountain West Conference regular-season titles in six years. At UCLA, he took the program to three Sweet Sixteens in six seasons. He is currently the head coach for the Nevada Wolfpack.
