About Steve Fisher
Steve Fisher has long been a respected basketball mind and is the architect of the San Diego State program. Fisher won five Mountain West Conference regular season titles with the Aztecs and four MWC Tournament championships. SDSU went to the NCAA Tournament eight times under his watch. In 2011, the Aztecs were at one point ranked fourth in the country, won a school-record 34 games, and Fisher was named Naismith College Coach of the Year. He first rose to coaching prominence as an assistant and later the head coach at Michigan. In his first season on the job, Fisher won the NCAA title. His legacy in Ann Arbor, however, is forever tied to the “Fab Five” recruiting class of 1991. They reached the national title game in both their freshman and sophomore seasons. Overall, Fisher had Michigan in March Madness seven out of his nine seasons and also won the NIT in his final year, 1997.
