About Steve Lyons
A former Major League baseball player and television broadcaster, Steve Lyons was multi talented to say the least. Both an outfielder and an infielder, batting left and throwing right, Lyons started and ended his professional career with the Boston Red Sox. Lyons was a first round draft pick in the 1981 draft, after attending Oregon State on a baseball scholarship. Throughout his nine seasons in the MLB, Lyons also played for the Chicago White Sox, Atlanta Braves, and Montreal Expos. Strangely enough, he was known for playing tic-tac-toe and hangman in the infield dirt during games with the spikes on his cleats. This habit earned him the nickname, “Psycho”. After retiring from the MLB, Lyons pursued sports broadcasting with Fox Sports as a color analyst for MLB coverage. Lyons has since joined NESN as a Red Sox studio analyst in 2014 and continues to light up the television with his colorful personality.
