About Steve Pikiell
Steve Pikiell is on a mission to turn the Rutgers basketball program around and make them a consistent winner in the tough Big Ten Conference. Over an 11-year tenure at Stony Brook, he certainly built the type of resume that inspires confidence. The Seawolves won the America East Conference regular season title four times. In 2015-16, Pikiell's final season, Stony Brook finally paired regular season success with the America East Conference Tournament Championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament for the first time under Pikiell. He was a four-time America East Coach of the Year as well. Overall, Pikiell finished 192-156 at Stony Brook and is the winningest head coach in program history. Prior to heading the program, he was an assistant at George Washington and Central Connecticut. Pikiell also had the opportunity to be the head coach at Wesleyan for one season and an assistant coach at Yale and for the New Haven Skyhawks. His coaching career began at his alma mater, Connecticut. Pikiell also played point guard at UConn under the legendary Jim Calhoun. He captained the school's first Big East championship team.
